Another Story on Ktab, They are doing incredible work.
t is a woman's worst nightmare: alone on a dark, lonely road and confronted by a serial rapist.
It happened to an Abilene woman 20 years ago.
We continue to take a look at how victims of violence have overcome tragedy, leading up to an event called "Stop the Violence, Start the Love" which benefits the Crime Victims Crisis Center.
It was 20 years ago in Abilene that 21 year old Lynda Scales was going home to her husband after a night of bowling.
But little did she know her life as she new it was about to be swept away.
A few hours before she left the bowlling lanes a man by the name of Mitchell Wayne Thomas was getting of of work in Kansas and hit the Interstate on his way to Abilene
Thats when their paths crossed, and Lynda's life would never be the same.
She later found out that Thomas had over 20 other victims and had attacked another women just three days after her; thats when he was caught in Manahans, just a few hours west of Abilene.
Thomas was eventually sentenced to 60 years in prison and since that night in September 20 years ago Lynda has moved on and is now helping other crime victims.
She is a volunteer coordinator with the Regional Crime Victims Crisis Center and she says they are there because she is not the only one with a story like hers and when other lives are shattered by violence they will be there to help put them back together.
Stop the Violence, Start the Love will be on the 17th of this month.
