John 13 21/21

In the first portion of John 13 Jesus gives us all a free leadership seminar. In John 13:2-5 it reads, “And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’” As Jesus began to wash the disciples feet, I’m sure the disciple couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed. I mean this was absolutely crazy that their leader, the person they had been following, would take the position of servant on and wash their feet. There is no doubt Jesus loved his disciples, regardless of the fact that in just a few moments they would abandon him. Jesus displayed an incredible example of what it looked liked to be a servant leader, an example that we all should follow.

"The measure of a leader is not the number of people who serve the leader, but the number of people served by the leader." ~ Adapted from a quote by John C. Maxwell
